Pass Christian man killed when truck flips, explodes

HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

A Pass Christian man died in a horrific crash early Thursday morning. The accident happened just after midnight on Vidalia Road.

Victor Piernas, 59, was driving alone when his Dodge Ram Truck clipped a mailbox, flipped over, and exploded. Investigators said by the time emergency crews arrived, Piernas was in a grassy area adjacent to his truck, and his body was burning.

Rescue teams treated the driver at the scene, then rushed him to Garden Park Hospital where he died around 4am.

Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove said Piernas died from his injuries, not burns.
