BRANDON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Brandon police say two men are facing charges in a shooting at an apartment complex Wednesday night that injured one person.

Robert Clark Jr., 27, and Iquri Batiste, 30, are being held in the Rankin County Jail.

Brandon Assistant Police Chief Chris Butts says Clark was arrested Wednesday night and charged with drive-by shooting. Batiste was arrested Thursday and charged with aggravated assault.

Butts says the shooting happened just before 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Brandon Hill Apartments after a fight broke out between Clark and the shooting victim, Dillan Wilson, over a basketball game.

Police say Clark punched Wilson, knocked him out and then left. A short time later, Clark was reportedly in the parking lot of the apartment complex, where he lives, and was putting his two children in a car when Batiste and Wilson drove by.

Batiste and Wilson allegedly got out of the car. That's when police say shots were exchanged and Wilson was hit in the abdomen. Wilson then ran back to the car.

Police say Batiste then fired out his vehicle at Clark and the vehicle with the two children inside.

"After Mr. Wilson got in the vehicle with Mr. Batiste, Mr. Batiste backed up, he fired out of his vehicle at the Clark subject. One bullet for sure went in the vehicle," Butts said. "Prior to all of this transpiring, Mr. Clark was helping this female and their two infant children, he was helping her load their children in the car. They were actually in the vehicle when Mr. Batiste fired. Luckily the kids were not hit."

Butts says one of the bullets went through the back window of the car, between the two children and through the driver's side head rest.

Batiste reportedly took Wilson to the hospital.

Wilson remains at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. According to Wilson's family, he had emergency surgery Wednesday night.

This is the first shooting in two years in Brandon.

As Ja-Naya Thompson's short life was celebrated, there were a lot of tears and hugs as hundreds of people paid their respects during the visitation and the funeral service.
