JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A celebrity chef, who once lived in Jackson and attended Tougaloo College, is facing charges after an encounter with University of Chicago police, according to TODAY.

Josh Marks was the runner-up on season three of MasterChef -- a reality TV cooking competition.

TODAY reports that Marks has been charged with aggravated battery against a police officer. He is being held on $150,000 bond.

Jeremy Manier, news director for the university, said Marks was taken into custody just before 4 a.m. Tuesday after he attacked and attempted to disarm an officer at an apartment complex, according to the TODAY report.

Marks is being held in a nearby medical facility, but a spokesperson for the Cook County Department of Corrections didn't say what he was being treated for, TODAY reports.

Marks grew up in Chicago and moved to Jackson to attend Tougaloo on a basketball scholarship.
