JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Hinds County Coroner confirms a body found on Deer Park Street has been identified through DNA as Darius Brent.

Autopsy results found that the 20-year-old had been shot twice in the head and once in the torso.

According to Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart, the body appeared to have been at the location for a couple of weeks.

Jackson Precinct Two Officers found the decomposing body Wednesday under a house in the 1500 block of Deer Park Street while canvassing the area in search of Brent.

Family and friends have been searching for 20-year-old Brent for about three weeks. They arrived at the scene after hearing news of the discovery of a body.

The discovery came one day after investigators issued a missing persons alert for Brent.

"It's been difficult," said Brent's grandmother, Barbara Jones. "We've been over in this area and didn't find anything. We've been going into the woods and everything to see if maybe we could locate his body or something, and then we got a call today that they had found a body over here. And this was the last known location over this way."

"Right now I'm just numb. I'm just numb," said Brent's mother, Allison King.

It's an agonizing time for the mother who was visibly shaken while watching investigators at work.

Brent was last seen July 8 and told his mother he was on his way home around 1:15 a.m. July 9. His mother reported him missing July 16. King recalls the last conversation she had with her son.

"He was ready to get into this program that I had told him about, so he could get his GED and start trying to do some kind of job training," King said.

"He ever told us that he had any type of disagreement with anybody out here. He's always like 'That's my brother. That's my homie or whatever.' He never said anything negative that nobody was out go try to take his life. So that's why we're puzzled," said Brent's aunt, Debra Brent.
