JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Warren County Circuit Clerk Shelly Ashley-Palmertree has been granted a continuance until December 1. The embattled clerk owes over $661-thousand dollars to the county.

The State Auditor charges she exceeded her $90-thousand dollar salary cap for circuit clerks and also paid her father $163-thousand dollars. Stacey Pickering also accused Palmertree of court shopping to avoid paying up.

Her motion for continuance  states, when her witness, Certified Public Account Ken Pace was deposed, he appeared under some sort of mental or physical disability.

It also says he was unable to read her financial report or the figures generated by his office. It says Pace admitted his son did the report and he was not qualified.

Palmertree says she has hired a new CPA.

The Warren County Circuit Clerk was scheduled for trial in Hinds County Chancery Court Monday.
