HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - The Lorraine Road bridge over the Biloxi River is being closed indefinitely Monday at 2pm while a safety analysis is conducted on the bridge's substructure. There's no immediate word on when the bridge could re-open.
City engineers in Gulfport and Biloxi made the decision to close the bridge after reviewing its condition.
About 3,600 vehicles use the two-lane bridge on an average day, according to Gulf Regional Planning Commission.
The state has said the bridge has a sufficiency rating of 27.8 out of 100, and the bridge's weight limit is 30,000 pounds. This means some school buses and large trucks were discouraged from using the bridge.
