Gautier murder suspect expected in court

GAUTIER, MS (WLOX) -

There may be a new development in a two year old Gautier murder.  WLOX News has confirmed Marius Kirkland will be in a Jackson County courtroom tomorrow morning.

Kirkland is accused of the July, 2011 stabbing death of his girlfriend Amanda Perkins.

Anybody who lives in Gautier's Ocean Estates subdivision probably remembers this case.  They stood outside Perkins home in disbelief two summers ago after learning the 23 year old had been stabbed to death.

When the investigation started, Gautier police officer Matt Hoggatt told WLOX News, "It is just really shocking and scary actually."  Hoggatt said police responded to an assault call at Perkins' home.  When they walked in, they found her dead.

The officer said investigators got a tip to start looking for her boyfriend, Marius Kirkland.  "They were on again and off again as it has been romantic relationship that involved children they shared," Hoggatt said during an interview two years ago. "They had at some point had lived together in the same home."

Gautier Police eventually arrested Kirkland.  He was later indicted on a murder charge.

The Kirkland case is on the Monday docket in Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Kathy King's courtroom.  The murder suspect's hearing is expected to begin at 8:30.
