CHICAGO (WBBM/CNN) – An elderly man is dead after an altercation with police.
A 95-year-old man was tased and shot with a bean bag gun by Park Force, IL police at his assisted living facility.
In a written report, Park Force Police said they elderly man was armed with a butcher knife and didn't stop being combative, even after he was tased in his room.
Police then used what they call less lethal bean bag rounds in an attempt to get him to drop the knife. Officials say only after the resident was shot were officers able to take him into custody.
Neighbors say there had to be a better way to get the man to stop waiving his cane and brandishing the knife.
Police say the 95-year-old was conscious and talking when he was put into an ambulance and driven to a local hospital, but then he had to be transported to another hospital. Within five hours, he was pronounced dead.
Administrators and officials at the man's assisted living facility say they've never had any problems with the resident.
Neighbors thoughts are on the police officers, whose actions they say should be fully investigated.
