Truck driver charged with bringing contraband to prison

Authorities say a truck driver for a private vendor has been charged with taking drugs and other contraband to the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility in Pearl.

The Mississippi Department of Corrections says in a news release that James Brooks of Canton was arrested Friday when authorities found contraband in the Stericycle truck he was driving.

It wasn't immediately clear if Brooks had a lawyer.

MDOC says the contraband included cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamine, 46 cell phones, alcohol, tobacco, lighters and other items.

Stericycle's website says it offers services like medical waste management. A message left with the company Saturday wasn't immediately returned.
