RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Governor Phil Bryant announced Friday a new manufacturer is coming to Ridgeland.

TALON Ordnance is a tactical firearms manufacturing facility that will be the first production-scale weapons manufacturing facility to originate in Mississippi.

According to a press release, the company will employ about 10 people and expects to grow to about 50 people.

The company will start production of a tactical rifle this fall, and the first rifles are expected off the line in January, according to the press release. The company plans to produce 3,000 rifles in the first half of next year.

The company's CEO, Clay Baldwin, is originally from Magee and has lived in the Madison area for years. He's a military veteran with more than 18 years of experience in law enforcement.

"Approximately 15-20 percent of the production line will be dedicated to law enforcement, military and government contractors. Beyond that, these weapons will be built for our citizen patriots, they will be built for the commercial market," Baldwin said.

TALON is located in the Highland Colony Business Park in Ridgeland.
