JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

An interim Hinds County Supervisor has gone against his word that he would not run for the position he was appointed to earlier this month.

Al Hunter was selected to fill the position of the late Doug Anderson, as District Two Supervisor.

The reason this has become an issue is because Al Hunter was only considered for the interim position because he said he would not run for the seat. Tuesday he changed his mind, and then changed his mind again Wednesday.

Al Hunter filed qualifying papers to run in the upcoming election Tuesday. Before he was considered for the temporary position, he said he would not enter the race. Wednesday, he withdrew his name, saying he and his family decided it would be better to wait for the next election.

"I never intended to run," said Hunter when contacted by phone. "I never expected the overwhelming support from the community and I saw a grave need where I could help them."
