DELISLE, MS (WLOX) -

Dupont executives announced Tuesday they're considering either selling or spinning off their performance chemicals segment. That means the Dupont flag may not be flying at the Delisle titanium dioxide facility for much longer.

If Dupont leaders follow through with those plans, the Delisle complex on the Bay of St. Louis will likely have a new owner.

According to the Harrison County Development Commission website, Dupont Delisle is the number one manufacturing plant in the county. The facility currently employs more than 900 workers on site and has an annual payroll of approximately $94.5 million.

Everyone in coast business circles expects it to remain a vital part of South Mississippi's economy. For proof of that, they point to the announcement two weeks ago, when Dupont extended its lease at the Port of Gulfport for another 30 years.

That extension has business leaders saying despite Dupont's new interest in selling its Delisle plant, they remain very confident in Dupont's future.
