Sports: N.O. Saints, Southern Miss & Ole Miss

New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced Tuesday that they have signed free agent safety Akwasi Owusu-Ansah to a one-year contract and waived cornerback Ryan Steed.

Owusu-Ansah is a two-year NFL veteran.  He has played in 14 career games with two starting assignments with the Dallas Cowboys and Jacksonville Jaguars.

He played as a defender, a wide receiver and a kickoff and punt return specialist.

Ole Miss football coach Hugh Freeze announced that sophomore quarterback Maikhail Miller has decided to transfer to another school.

The Rebels also inked Fadol Brown, a 6-4, 275 pound defensive lineman who joins the 2013 recruiting class that was ranked among the top-10 in the nation.

The Charleston, South Carolina native played at Florida International University last season as a freshman.  He rang up eight tackles, 2.0 tackles for a loss and 1.5 sacks in ten games.

Other SEC schools recruited Brown who was rated a three-star prospect by Rivals.com.

He will sit out the 2013 season and will have three years to play for the Rebels.

Southern Miss announced that the Golden Eagles will kickoff the 2013 home slate  on August 31st at 6 p.m.. facing Texas State.

On October 5th at 3 p.m. Southern Miss will entertain Florida International University.

North Texas comes to Hattiesburg on October 26th at 6 p.m. for homecoming.

On November 16th at 11:30 in the morning Southern Miss battles Florida Atlantic and close out regular season play at home against Middle Tennessee at 2:30 p.m. on November 23rd.

Jason Krohn grew up with Luke and played football with him at Gulfport High. Also an Ole Miss alum, Krohn believes Luke is the right person to guide the Rebels through difficult times.
