Sales tax holiday weekend coming up

Mississippi's sales tax holiday is coming up this weekend. The Walmart on Highway 18 in South Jackson is preparing for it.

On Friday and Saturday, shoppers in most cities and towns across the state can buy clothing and shoes without paying the 7% sales tax. You can enjoy this tax holiday at any store that sells clothing and shoes.

Although your total bill can exceed $100 and be tax-exempt, each single item you purchase must be under $100 to be eligible. For example, a $120 pair of shoes will not be tax-exempt, but two pair of shoes at $90 each will be tax-exempt.

"It's basic apparel, jeans, printed tee shirts, shoes, hosiery," says Walmart General Manager Eddie Robinson.

"I do everything that weekend. Shoes, clothes, supplies, backpacks, everything," said shopper Olivia Moton of Hollandale.

Keep in mind that backpacks and school supplies will not be tax-exempt. Click here for a full list of what you can get without paying tax this Friday and Saturday.
