HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

A Minnesota man was arrested Monday after he was stopped by the Hancock County Sheriff's Office Interdiction Unit and reportedly found with approximately $35,000 in marijuana, according to the Hancock County Sheriff's Department.

Commander Jeremy Skinner says Mario Knotz, 40, of Forrest Lake, Minnesota was driving a 2013 Ford Fusion without a license plate when he was stopped on Highway 90 near Waveland.

Skinner said deputies obtained probable cause to search the vehicle and discovered 15 pounds of hydroponic marijuana.

Sheriff Ricky Adam stated, "Although I am always excited when my Interdiction Unit finds illegal narcotics on the interstate and removes them from the street, I am especially excited about this stop being that this marijuana was enroute to our community directly for distribution."

Knotz was charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute. He is currently being held at the Hancock County Jail pending his initial appearance.
