Dozens of people gathered Thursday night to remember two Jackson teens gunned down over the weekend.

The candlelight vigil was held across from Walton Elementary school not far from Redmond Avenue and Gun Street where the teen's bodies were found.

Family members are pleading with the public for information on who murdered 17-year-old Albert Barber Jr., and 16-year-old Jason Murphy. Their bodies were found in two separate ditches around 5:15 Sunday morning. Both had been shot in the back.

"He was a good person in the community. Never heard a curse word, never cursed me, or nothing. God blessed my son, and I don't know why he's gone," said Albert Barber Sr.

"If you don't want to go to police call me. Look me up on facebook, call me, tell me, and I'll go tell them for you. I'm not scared of anyone calling me a snitch, and I pray and hope that God will use you to go ahead and tell the people who did this horrible crime," said Pam Greer, who organized the vigil.

Jackson Public Schools Superintendent Cedric Gray and Councilman Tony Yarber attended the vigil to support the families of the victims.

So far Jackson police have not released any information on leads or a motive in the case.

Barber was found less than 100 yards from the backdoor of his mother's home.

"Jason and AJ stayed together. Every time you see them, best friends. They didn't bother nobody. You know, just average kids hanging out together; ain't started no shoot outs with nobody, ain't robbing nobody," said Barber's brother Marcus Levy.

Levy says he considers the neighborhood a safe area and other residents agree.

"It's a quiet area, it really is. A bunch of old people stay over here. No shooting ever went on this part over here. It's a bunch of kids out here," explained Levy.

"The 30 years I've been over here, I ain't never seen nothing like this. That's horrific stuff that happened right there," said a neighbor, who did not want to be identified.

Jackson police say there were reports of gunshots in the area around 10 or 11 Saturday night. Levy believes the teens were robbed.

Many people in the area remain in disbelief.

"What did they do that was so bad that you just had to shoot them down like dogs? That's what the whole neighborhood wants to know," said the neighbor.

Levy is holding on to memories because that's all he has left of his brother.

"Everything. Every time I pull up he's smiling. Every time. We sit, we talk. I miss everything about him," said an emotional Levy.
