Pearl Battalion Chief laid to rest

PEARL, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Family, friends and loved ones paid final respects to Pearl firefighter Dwayne Harris Tuesday morning. Mourners gathered at Crossgates Baptist Church in Brandon to say their goodbyes.

Funeral services for Pearl Battalion Chief Dwayne Harris were held Tuesday at 10 a.m. with burial following at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Chief Harris served in the Pearl Fire Department for 35 years and was also a co-owner of Sign Mark in Pearl.

The Pearl Fire Department provided a full honors procession to the cemetery. Harris' "Final Run" traveled south on Woodgate Drive to Highway 80, then westward to Floral Hills cemetery.

Memorials in his honor may be made to the Pearl Firefighters Foundation. Harris died Wednesday from traumatic brain injury sustained during a fight with his son while on vacation in Florida.

    William Huff terrorized Sierra Vista during the spring and summer of 1967. Despite a sentence of 40 years to life, the Arizona Board of Executive Clemency voted to release him from prison into home arrest. Family members of the victims are concerned for the safety of the community, as are new members of the Clemency Board. CBS 5 Investigates videotaped Huff riding a bike through his Tucson neighborhood. There are no restrictions placed on his proximity to children.
