North Jackson townhouse fire contained to 1 unit

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson fire crews responded to the scene of a townhouse fire in North Jackson Thursday morning.

The fire broke out sometime after 4 a.m. at the Town and Country Townhome complex across from Northpark Mall.

"We received a call around 4:12 this morning in reference to a townhouse on fire. When units arrived on scene they did report, we did have flames and smoke showing," confirms Jackson Fire Department Deputy Chief Simpson.

The blaze was centered in building-G, and arson investigators were on scene conducting a preliminary investigation. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to just one unit.

"We were able to extinguish that fire and contain it to the one unit," states Simpson. "[Arson investigators] will go through and sift through things and move things to try to determine, to give a determination of the cause of the fire."

Deputy Chief Simpson explains a fire wall actually helped prevent the fire from burning neighboring homes. When firefighters arrived on scene flames were visible from the upper level of the residence, but Simpson reveals that is not necessarily where the blaze started.

"A lot of times when you see smoke coming out of one area, it's not necessarily the origin of the fire," clarifies Simpson.

No injuries have been reported.
