D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - D'Iberville has a new city manager with a very familiar name. Bobby Eleuterius received a standing ovation at Tuesday afternoon's city council meeting when he was introduced and approved by a unanimous vote of the city council.
Eleuterius was a Harrison County supervisor for more than two decades. The district he represented for all those years includes D'Iberville, where he has lived for most of his life.
Eleuterius was actually chosen for the job of city manager about two years ago, but at the last minute decided to turn down it down due to some negative publicity. Now, he said he's very much looking forward to serving the city he truly loves.
"I missed government; I missed working with the city," Eleuterius said. "I volunteered here. I was the chairman of their master plan, and got really involved with the city again and just missed it. So, when the job became vacant again, I applied with 99 other folks."
As has always been the case in the city, the city manager will have a one year contract, but Eleuterius said he hopes to be there for a long time.
The job has been vacant for several months, ever since former city manager Michael Janus was fired.
