BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) -

A Bay St. Louis couple is lucky to be alive after escaping a house fire Saturday night. Authorities say the fire broke out on Carroll Avenue in Bay St. Louis shortly before midnight. When firefighters arrived flames had already started to engulf the house.

Fortunately the homeowners, Zoe and Tom Bowers made it out of the burning home unharmed.

Zoe told WLOX NEWS, she and her husband were in bed sleeping when something woke her up. It took firefighters several hours to bring the blaze under control.

The heat from the fire was so intense that it melted the vinyl siding on a house on the next street over.

Hancock County Fire Marshall Brian Adam is investigating the cause.
