GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - There is positive economic news about the Dupont-Delisle plant. The company is extending its lease and expanding its operations at the Port of Gulfport.
Dupont-Delisle has long been a major presence at the port and that long term relationship will continue for several decades. Dupont has extended its lease at the Port of Gulfport for another 30 years.
The agreement includes options to extend the lease for a total of 60 years. In addition, the port is constructing new facilities for Dupont.
That's a nearly $80 million project that will increase the number of storage silos to 10, from the current four. Company spokesman, Duane Wilson, told WLOX News' Steve Phillips that will give the company much more capacity and operational flexibility.
Dupont brings shipments of various ore to the port which is then transferred by rail to the plant in Delisle. Duane Wilson said to expect "significant construction" on the project by next year.
The expansion is scheduled to be completed by mid-2016.
