A local charity is cooking up a new strategy for stocking its food pantry.
The Biloxi Salvation Army gives food to needy families and to the homeless. But right now most of the shelves are empty. Others have only a few cans of corn and green beans.
Workers say they get a lot of donations during November and December, but struggle at other times of the year. Now they're looking for ways to change that.
"What happens is that we get an abundance of food items at that time. We use them throughout the year, which in wonderful. The problem is when we start running low. We need groups to do the food drives throughout the year, then we won't run low," said Geraldine Martin with Biloxi's Salvation Army
