Boaters bidding on boats snagged in DMR controversy

Posted: Updated:
BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

The Department of Marine Resources is accepting bids until Monday afternoon on two large pleasure boats it's selling.

The Californian and Topaz were part of the ongoing investigation into the activities of former longtime executive director of the DMR, Dr. Bill Walker. He was head of a private foundation.

Until two months ago, the boats belonged to that foundation.  As WLOX News has reported, Dr. Walker reportedly donated the vessels to the DMR in a deal brokered by the state auditors office.

The vessels are valued at several hundred thousand dollars.

Bids on the boats are due at the DMR office by 3pm Monday. They will be opened at the CMR meeting Tuesday morning.
