Boys & Girls Clubs of the Gulf Coast hold 22nd Annual Steak and Stake dinner

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

It was a big evening for the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Gulf Coast as they gathered for the 22nd Annual Steak and Steak Dinner. The event was hosted by the IP Casino Resort and Spa and all five units along the coast were represented.

It was not only an opportunity for the kids to personally thank their sponsors, but also a chance for them to showcase some of their greatest achievements over the past year.

"The thing that's special about this is that the kids are actually able to interface with their major sponsors. So they actually sit at the table. They've prepared for this event. They've got a number of entertainment spots that they do," says Duane Wilson of the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Gulf Coast.

Along with a steak dinner, sponsors could participate in a silent auction and an online auction which is a first for this year's event. Emceeing for the event was WLOX's own anchor Meggan Gray, who also presented each club's "youth of the year" award.

As Ja-Naya Thompson's short life was celebrated, there were a lot of tears and hugs as hundreds of people paid their respects during the visitation and the funeral service. People told me they went to Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church for two reasons, to mourn the loss of five year old Ja-Naya and to show support to the parents who must now face life without their beloved child.More >>
