Texas tax-free weekend announced

(KLTV) -

It seems like summer just began, but Texas officials are already reminding consumers about the Texas sales tax holiday coming up in August.

"Texas families can take advantage of the sales tax holiday when doing their back-to-school shopping. The tax holiday applies to a variety of items ranging from pens to jeans to help shoppers around Texas save some of their hard earned money," says Texas Comptroller Susan Combs.

Most clothing, footwear, school supplies, and backpacks priced under $100 are exempt from sales tax during the annual weekend holiday. According to Combs, shoppers will save an estimated $74.1 million in state and local sales tax.

This year's tax-free weekend is August 9-11.

For a full list of apparel and supplies that can be purchased tax-free, visit the Sales Tax Holiday website.
