Miss Mississippi 2013: Contestants prepare all year

VICKSBURG, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Six members of the Top Ten from the Miss Mississippi Pageant last year are back in Vicksburg hoping to win the crown. Among them are the first, second, third and fourth runners up to Miss Mississippi, Marie Wicks.

One of the first things the contestants will tell you is no matter how well you perform in previous years at the Miss Mississippi Pageant, there are no guarantees when you return to the Vicksburg Convention Center.

Jessica Terrill, Miss Southern Heartland was second runner up, Jasmine Murray, Miss Mississippi State University was first.

"I'm back this year and I'm so excited and I'm ready so, I can't wait to see what the week has in store," said Murray.

"You really have to keep focused on your goals and my goal is always, I want to do my best," said Terrill.

Fourth runner up, Chelsea Rick, Miss Amory Railroad Festival has just finished her first year of medical school at William Carey, and third runner up, Chassidy Sumler, Miss Northridge, is back for a third year.

"I pretty much prepare the whole year, from the time I leave Miss Mississippi I'm preparing to come back the next year," said Sumler.

"Oh it was so thrilling for me to finally break that Top 5," said Rick. "It was a wonderful moment, where I saw that my hard work, the things that I have been working for my entire life were finally within reach."

Of the 35 contestants competing for the title this year 15 are here for the first time. The annual Parade of Contestants begins Monday night at 7 in Downtown Vicksburg.

You can watch the Miss Mississippi Pageant live on WLBT Saturday night. The final competition starts at 8 p.m.
