Hinds D.A. wants bond revoked for accused murderer

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Hinds County District Attorney is trying to get bond revoked for accused murderer Cedric Ratliff. The 25-year-old Jackson man was busted over the weekend for almost a half a pound of marijuana.

Ratliff was arrested at a home on Cox Street. Officers believe the marijuana has a street value of about one thousand dollars and their search turned up about $1,000 in cash as well.

He's already charged in connection with the 2012 shooting death of 15 year old Edward Evans. At the time of Ratliff's prior arrest, family claimed the 26 year old was protecting himself from a group of men trying to break into his house.

Ratliff had been free on a 50- thousand dollar bond.

District Attorney Robert Smith released this statement Monday:

"Ratliff is on non-adjudicated probation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections for a felony drug arrest predating his arrest for murder last year. Based upon this information, we've requested MDOC to revoke Ratliff's non-adjudicated status, accept his guilty plea, and sentence him."

This would place him in the custody of the State. Smith said If that doesn't happen, he will file a motion to revoke bond in Hinds County Court.
