Reconnaissance plane finds Chantal is still a tropical storm

MIAMI, FL (WAFB) -

An Air Force reconnaissance plane flew into Chantal to verify its strength Wednesday morning and found the system is still a tropical storm.

The National Hurricane Center said the storm's maximum sustained winds were 45 mph at 10 a.m.

Chantal is centered about 145 miles south of Port au Prince, Haiti. It is speeding to the west at 29 mph.

The storm is expected to make a turn to the west-northwest and then northwest during the next 48 hours. Its forward is forecast to slow down within that same time period.
