WLOX Editorial: Take time to thank our first responders

Posted: Updated:

The state of Arizona and the nation lost 19 young firefighters this week. 19 people who gave the ultimate sacrifice fighting to save property and lives. The firefighters in Arizona are akin to firefighters and others in public safety here in Mississippi. Whether it's fire, water dangers, accidents or major storms that threaten our safety; the first responders are there for us.

They often put themselves in harm's way to protect others. As you pause to remember these heroic young men, consider sending your message of sympathy to the Arizona fire company that lost the 19 firefighters.

Registers from Bradford O'Keefe are at the Biloxi Central Fire Station located in the Public Safety Center on Porter Avenue. Gulfport's Central Fire Station on 23rd by City Hall and Ocean's Springs Central Fire Station in the Public Safety building on Bienville across from Walmart.

You can sign and write a sympathy message through the weekend. Next week, the registers will be sent to the Arizona fire company that lost the 19 firefighters. And the next time you see our first responders, take a moment to thank them for their service.

That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to editorials@wlox.com, or post your comments below.
