JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Kaytlynn Brann has been gone for months, but she is not forgotten by her family. The crosses on the side of Pointe Aux Chenes Road are testament to that. Wednesday, they placed new flowers on the site.

Also for months, her parents expressed doubts they'd ever see justice for their daughter.

But Wednesday, Pascagoula police officer Daniel Snyder was indicted on the felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident. Investigators say he was the man driving the truck that struck 16-year-old Kaytlynn Brann back in February.

"I didn't think he's be indicted," said Kaytlynn's father, Keith Brann. "That's all I even wanted was for him to be judged by the jury. That's all I ever wanted."

"I'm happy. Nothing is ever going to bring her back, but at least now I know that there is going to be some justice," said Kaytlynn's mother, Kristen.

A courtroom will soon become a focal point for Kristen and the family.

"Now it's up to a jury of Daniel Snyder's peers. So, it's out of the DA's hands now and now it's going to be up to 12 people to decide what's going to happen to him. Now, like I said, nothing that could happen to him will ever be enough," Kristen said.

The nightmare is still not over for Keith.

"Not even close to closure. Now it's going to be the wait until the trial a year away or so."

The loss of Kaytlynn affects more than just the family. Sarah Guy is her best friend, and was walking alongside her at the time of the accident.

"I've just been completely lost without her. We had plans for the future," Guy said.  "We were going to buy our first apartment together and have a job together and raise our kids together and everything. And just trying to plan my life without her is completely insane."

The family isn't looking for vengeance, but Keith said they have one desire.

"I want him to never to be able to hold a position in law enforcement again, period. That's all I want."

For now, Snyder is free on a $7500 bond. He's been placed on administrative leave without pay from his job at the Pascagoula Police Department.

The next legal proceeding will be his court arraignment where he will enter a plea. That can either be done in person or by filing documents.

His attorney, Keith Miller, told WLOX News that Snyder will plead not guilty.
