MDOT announces closures for July 4th weekend

If you're planning to hit the road for the July 4 holiday weekend, check out the list of road closures issued by the Mississippi Department of Transportation.

MDOT Public Information Officer Kenny Foote says the following roadways will be closed July 4 - 7.

District 1

• U.S. Highway 78 in New Albany; the east and westbound median lanes between State Route 30 and State Route 15

• U.S. Highway 45 in Tupelo; the north and southbound median lanes between Main Street and Eason Boulevard

District 5

• Interstate 20 in Scott County; the westbound lane at Exit 96

• Interstate 20 in Scott County; reduced to one lane, east and westbound, from Strong River Bridges to the Rankin County line

• Interstate 20 at Lost Gap Exit; reduced to one lane, east and westbound, through the construction site

District 6

• U.S. Highway 98 in Forrest County; eastbound lane from Interstate 59 to U.S. Highway 49

• J-Turn project in Jones County; reduced to one lane, east and westbound through the construction site

    Biloxi Police are investigating a dead body that was found on the beach Saturday morning. The body was found in the sand in front of St. George Avenue. Witnesses say two women went to retrieve a fishing pole out of the water and discovered the body. It's unclear at this time how the person died or whether the death is suspicious.     American deaths from drug overdoses have risen yearly since 2002 through 2015, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says. The number of deaths from opioid drugs also spiked in 2015 compared to 2013.
