JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Daniel Snyder, the Pascagoula Police officer accused of hitting and killing an Ocean Springs teenager in February, has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident-Felony.
Kaytlynn Brann and a friend were walking on the pavement in Gulf Park Estates when Brann was hit on Pointe Aux Chenes Road the night of February 22nd. Kaytlynn's parents told WLOX News in May about their concerns that the investigation was taking too long, and even becoming a "cover up."
Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd said the investigation took a long time to investigate because of multiple witnesses and the wait on crime lab results.
"This is a tragedy for the family. We did not waiver in this investigation in anyway. It just took time. We will continue to work hard when investigating cases no matter who they involve," Sheriff Byrd said. "This is a sad day for law enforcement and a sad day for the community. Nobody benefits from this."
Pascagoula Police Chief Kenny Johnson said he was surprised by the indictment.
"He's only been charged with a crime, not convicted. He will have his day in court," Chief Johnson told WLOX News.
The chief said after conferring with the city manager and an attorney, Officer Snyder has been placed on administrative leave without pay.
