SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A Shreveport neighborhood is buzzing with an estimated 18,000 bees and neighbors want the hive removed safely before someone gets stung.

The hive is inside of the over hang in the corner of this house on Scotch Pine Drive in South Shreveport. Mostly, the bees keep to themselves but neighbor Greg DeLoach has his concerns about them being so close to his house, "well when I'm trying to mow in between the houses I have to watch them and keep an eye on them so I don't get too close. I have to be able to weed eat, clean the yard, edge, and everything but I don't want to get too close to them cause it might set them off."

But besides the concern for his own safety, DeLoach is more concerned about the safety of kids playing on the street, "I know of kids that come from one side of the street to the other and they may get curious, you know, kids wander around, You know, they get too close or anything can set them off. I know vibrations, the heat, or whatever."

A bee keeper told us that it would take over 30 bee stings to feel the affects of bee venom for someone who isn't allergic, but for a person who is allergic, one sting can be life threatening. DeLoach says that crossed his mind too, "that's one thing I was concerned about too. Anything can set them off and they can attack. So, I'd just like to see something done maybe, or corrected to solve the problem, and make them go away."

KSLA spoke to the homeowner who said she doesn't know what all the buzz is about, but admitted she has someone coming to take a look at the hive Wednesday. DeLoach says it's good news, "that's fine. I mean, that's great. If something can be done and somebody can do something. I hope they can done something about it."

So far, no one has been stung by the bees but neighbors want the hive removed safely before it becomes a bigger problem.
