VICKSBURG, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Former State Representative George Flaggs Jr. is officially Vicksburg's new mayor.

City officials were sworn in around 6 p.m. Sunday evening at the Vicksburg auditorium.

Flaggs told the crowd he'd give the first $7,500 of his check to a reading program for the city.

After Flaggs won the Democratic Primary in May he said,"Kept on running on the fact that I had 25 years experience. I've served you with honesty and integrity. Give me opportunity. If you give me opportunity, I'll make this city the best city they've ever had,".
