Twin boys reportedly disappear in Greene County river

GREENE COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Two six-year-old brothers are missing. They disappeared in the Chickasawhay River on Saturday.

A news release from the American Red Cross South Mississippi Chapter says that agency is providing on-scene canteen support for responders involved in a search and recovery of the two missing twins.

A phone call to the Greene County Sheriff's Department confirmed the search. However, the dispatcher said only the sheriff could release more information. And he hasn't returned phone calls to WLOX News.

A spokesperson from the nearby George County Sheriff's Department said the twins disappeared in the river on Saturday. Last night, family and friends held a prayer vigil for the boys. She said search teams have been scouring the Chickasawhay River all day Sunday.

Red Cross volunteers will remain on-scene to provide food and beverage for those involved in the recovery effort as long as services are needed. Greene County Emergency Manager Trent Robertson requested Red Cross canteen services to support the responders.

They hooked Mississippi's state flag underneath the American flag, and they raised both flags over the city hall grounds. And just like that, five days of debate over whether the state flag should fly in Ocean Springs temporarily came to an end.
