Powerful storms hit Warren County overnight

Posted: Updated:
VICKSBURG, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Powerful storms hit Warren County last night and caused power outages throughout much of the county, including Vicksburg. More than 17,000 customers lost power.

Strong straight line winds and rain caused gas stations to close, utility poles were blown over and one storage building was knocked over.

In one neighborhood a tree fell and blocked the street. Neighbors worked together to remove it from the roadway. The tree kept many residents from getting to their homes.

Interstate 20 eastbound was completely blocked when debris fell on the roadway. An 18-wheeler accident also slowed traffic near the Bovina exit.

Traffic is clear this morning, but some people are still without power.
