Local river still well above flood stage, rising

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A Flood Warning remains in effect for parts of Mecklenburg, Cabarrus and Stanly county near the Rocky River.   In Cabarrus county water levels were still rising and expected to peak near 24 feet.  The river there reaches flood stage at 16 feet.  Creeks and streams feeding into the river will likely spill over their banks, causing flooded roadways.

Over three inches of rain have fallen along an area extending from eastern Lincoln county through North Mecklenburg and into Cabarrus and Stanly counties.

The highest rainfall totals have reached nearly six inches in north Stanly county.

An earlier advisory for North Mecklenburg county was canceled when Mallard Creek dropped below flood stage early Saturday morning.
