Two Harrison County guards fired after allegedly abusing inmate

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Two deputies with the Harrison County Sheriff's Department have been fired.

Sheriff Melvin Brisolara tells WLOX News Frederick Corso and Joseph Tuten violated the department's policies concerning the treatment of inmates and falsifying reports.

One of the prison guards reportedly mistreated an inmate.  And the other officer falsified his report, allegedly trying to cover up the incident.

The incident in question was on May 23rd in one of the cell block areas.

According to Harrison County Sheriff Melvin Brisolara, the abuse was witnessed by a third jailer. He's the person who alerted jail administrators.

Sheriff's investigators reviewed security tape and determined the alleged abuse did occur.  The two jailers were terminated on June 11th.

The inmate did not suffer any injuries during the reported abuse.
