Company says initial investigation shows where chemical plant explosion started

Posted: Updated:

As the days and weeks go by, we'll begin to learn more and more about one of the recent deadly explosions at a chemical plant in southeast Louisiana.

The initial investigation into the explosion at the Williams Olefins plant in Geismar showed it started in an area of the plant which separates propylene into polymer and chemical grade products, according to the company.

Two people were killed and 77 others were hurt as a result of the incident on June 13. One worker is still in the hospital and the plant remains closed.

Officials say it could be several months before an official cause is determined.
