OMAHA, NE (WLOX) - Despite plenty of support from the crowd in Omaha Monday night, Mississippi State lost to UCLA in the opening game of the best-of-three College World Series.
At the top of the first, UCLA had runners on second and third with one out. Pat Valaika smacked a single into center field and Kevin Kramer went home giving the Bruins a one to nothing lead.
With two outs, former Harrison Central standout first baseman Wes Rea made a diving stop of the ball, and got it to Fitts for the third out to close out the top of the first.
At the top of the fourth inning, Bruins on second and third, Eric Filia lined a single to right field. Brenton Allen and Brian Carroll scored and UCLA led three to nothing, a lead that held until the end. Final score: UCLA 3, MSU 1
Game two between Mississippi State and UCLA is set for 7pm Tuesday night. Game 3, if needed, will be Wednesday evening.
