Meagan Sheets and April Conwell from Coastal Candymakers create sweet pralines

1 ½ cups granulated sugar

1 ½ cups brown sugar

¨û teaspoon salt

3 tablespoons dark corn syrup

1 cup evaporated milk

2 tablespoons butter

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups pecan pieces

Place sugars, salt, corn syrup, milk and butter in saucepan. Over medium, heat until sugars dissolve and mixture comes to a boil. Cook to soft-ball stage (240 degrees on candy thermometer). Remove from heat and stir rapidly until mixture loses its gloss. Quickly scoop onto marble slab. Yield: 9-12 pralines.
