JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Mississippi Symphony Orchestra and supporters were rocking above downtown Jackson Saturday night.

The first of its kind fundraiser was held on top of a parking garage on Capitol Street.

Live music from the Geezers and other local artists entertained the more than 300 expected to attend.

The orchestra has a $1.8 million budget to perform, pay salaries, and provide education initiatives across the state.

"It's important because its also a way we connect with people that we might not otherwise connect with and then they have a chance to understand more about the orchestra and what we do," said Michael Beattie with the MS Symphony Orchestra.

Saturday night's fundraiser is one of many the orchestra hosts to provide music to the area.
