Abandoned truck draws attention from I-20 motorists

RICHLAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

There's a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck lodged on the east bank of the Pearl River, just below Interstate 20, in Rankin County. It is not clear how the truck got there, or exactly when.

The truck was reported stolen to Jackson Police in April of 2011. Richland police say it has been there since 2008.

It is in a place that is not easily accessible by vehicle, in the Pearl River swamp. This view of it from skycopter is about the only way to get video of it, but people with good eyes can see it from Interstate 20.

Jackson Police say it is their case and they will attempt to get to the vehicle. It was listed to Caleb Joyner of Flowood.

"We have received numerous telephone calls, especially over the weekend, from everyone driving by and seeing this vehicle," said Richland Police Public Information Officer Allison Clark. "Thinking it's just gone off in there. I guess, that's what they are thinking and they want to make sure someone knows."

"To my knowledge there hasn't been (any attempt to recover it) but we have let Jackson know that it's theirs and they can remove it if possible," Clark added.

It appears the truck may have gone into the river and been washed to where it is now located.
