RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A four-hour standoff in Ridgeland ended peacefully Tuesday afternoon.

Ridgeland police officers and Madison County sheriff's deputies surrounded a house on Bryceland Boulevard in Ridgeland Tuesday afternoon.

Lt. John Neal with the Ridgeland Police Department says a resident called police around 11:30 a.m. and said he was concerned his neighbor might hurt himself.

Police negotiators were able to talk the man out of the house around 3:30 p.m.

Neal said police had responded to the house in the past, and the man had a number of firearms.

"He's just been dealing with some things in his personal life that he felt like this was the best way to deal with those," Lt. Neal said. "Thank goodness we were able to convince him that there were other options."

Police said the man wasn't a threat to others in the area.
