D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - A fuel tank spewed gallons of gas into a street in D'Iberville Tuesday morning. D'Iberville officials said the truck was about to refuel the Shell station on Automall Parkway and Suzanne Drive when the truck driver popped the tank and gas started spilling out.
Fire Chief Gerald Smith said anywhere between five to ten gallons leaked, some trickling onto the side of the road. Firefighters responded quickly and were able to soak up much of the gas. The rest mixed with water on the side of the road and sand was placed on top to absorb it.
"Just about everybody on the D'Iberville Fire Department is hazmat trained, which deals with spills, pressurized tank accidents. Everybody is trained," Chief Smith said. "Of course, we don't have this all the time, but we have had several accidents in the past where people do spill fuel."
Part of Suzanne Drive was closed near the gas station, but re-opened shortly afterwards.
