Jonathan Jenkins took advantage of his days at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to fine tune his defensive skills and signed a scholarship with the Georgia Bulldogs in the tough SEC.
On Monday, the New Orleans Saints 3rd round draft pick attended coach Steve Campbell's camp where 530 high school football players from throughout the state and surrounding region are participating.
Jenkins played in Perkinston from 2009-2010 and told the campers that if you work hard, good things will happen. He gave the young men insight on what he went through and how he was able to achieve his goals.
Jenkins continues his road to success with his biggest challenge to date, the NFL. What he learned at Mississippi Gulf Coast has paved the way for Jenkins to succeed in the college ranks and no doubt he has the talent to become a vital cog in the Saints defensive attack for years to come.
Coach Campbell says his camp is the largest lineman camp in the Southeast. The high school players practice once on Sunday, three times on Monday and close out the camp Tuesday morning with a skills contest.
Campbell said, "Championships aren't won in the fall, they are won right now."
Campbell, the 2012 Coach of the Year by the Mississippi Association of Coaches, is considered one of the best offensive line coaches in college football.
