SIMPSON COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Two Simpson County inmates who walked off a work detail site Monday morning have been recaptured.

According to the Simpson County Sheriff's Office, the two inmates who walked off a work detail crew were captured around 7:30 p.m. Monday evening without incident in Simpson County.

According to Simpson County Sheriff Kenneth Lewis, Simpson County Adult Detention Center inmates Patrick McMillan, 24, and Billy Jo Gunter, 32, walked off a work detail crew on Highway 541 North near the Rankin County line at approximately 7:28 a.m. Monday.

Both men are county inmates and were originally incarcerated on misdemeanor charges including old fines and failure to pay child support.

Simpson County Sheriff's Office officials say the tracking dogs used in the search lost the scent of the two inmates near the Simpson-Rankin County line on Highway 541 Monday afternoon before they were discovered later that evening.
