Swimmer injured after being hit by boat

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

A man swimming suffered lacerations and fractures to both his legs after being struck by a boat Friday night in the area of the Popps Ferry Causeway, according to Lauren Thompson with the Department of Marine Resources (DMR).

Thompson said DMR's Marine patrol was contacted at 9:06 p.m. by Biloxi police.

DMR was told that the person had been hit by a boat while swimming. DMR and Biloxi police responded.

Thompson said, they found the victim with leg injuries. He was taken to Biloxi Regional before being airlifted to USA Medical Center in Mobile, AL.

A group of fishermen reported the incident. Thompson said, they reported seeing a white, 19-foot vessel with a center console go by and then heard someone screaming for help.

Marine patrol searched the area for hours, but could not find a vessel matching that description.
