JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A number of volunteers donated time and money to give Jackson area tykes some brand new bikes!

The new sets of wheels were put together for 30 children to take home on Saturday. The bike giveaway called "Bikes Tykes and Good Nights," took place outside of the Mattress Firm store on Highway 51 in Ridgeland.

Families who received the bikes were overwhelmed by the community's generosity.

"It's just very touching to me you know she always wanted a bike so it's very touching to me and I'm very Blessed," said mom Candace Kelly.

"This was an event that originated by Mattress Firm in Albuquerque, New Mexico and they had a really successful time doing it and when I heard about it I thought well that's a great idea for this area as well," said Danny Gray of D. Noblin Furniture and Mattress Firm.

The furniture store aimed to collect just 35 bikes to celebrate its 35th anniversary, but with the community's support 120 bikes were donated. The additional bikes will be distributed through the Salvation Army.
