Former prison guard sentenced for accepting bribe

NATCHEZ, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Robert Johnson, a former prison guard at the Yazoo Federal Correction Complex in Yazoo City, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for accepting a $5,000 bribe. Johnson was also ordered to pay a $1,500 fine.

Johnson pleaded guilty in November of 2012, and admitted accepting the bribe while employed as a corrections officer and using his official position to bring contraband to inmates.

U.S. Attorney Gregory Davis praised the efforts of the DOJ Office of Inspector General and the Federal Bureau of Prisons Office of Internal Affairs who investigated the case, as well as Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Helen Wall who prosecuted the case.
